Town of Seabrook

Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan

Background

This document is a final draft of the Town of Seabrook’s Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan. This Plan was developed by a several members of the Town’s emergency management personal, Building Inspector, Planning Coordinator, Highway Supervisor, and Town Administrator. The Plan was drafted by the Staff of the Rockingham Planning Commission.

The purpose of this Plan is to reduce the potential impact of natural hazards that can and do affect the Town of Seabrook . These natural hazards include: flooding, hurricanes or other high wind events, severe winter weather, wildfire and earthquakes. This plan profiles those hazards that could affect the town, describes mitigation strategies that the Town currently has in place, and suggests potential actions that could further reduce damage to property or injury to members of the community.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the New Hampshire Bureau of Emergency Management (NH BEM) are requiring every town in the State to have an approved plan in place prior to November 1st, 2004.

After a period of public comment via email a public hearing will be held by the selectmen to receive comment on the Plan. A second public hearing will also be held by the Planning Board. After comments have been received from the two Boards and the public the Plan will be revised as necessary and sent to FEMA and NH BEM for approval. After receiving approval the Plan will then be adopted by the Town. This will be done it two ways: the Seabrook Board of Selectmen will hold a second public hearing to approve the Plan as an official Town document; also the Seabrook Planning Board will hold a second public hearing to approve the Plan as an official appendix of Seabrook’s Master Plan.

Comments on the Plan are encouraged and can be submitted below via email. Please be as specific as possible. That dates of the public hearings are yet to be determined, but shall be duly noticed when the date is established.
