U.S. 1 Corridor Management Study

Background

The NHDOT has committed funding to the Rockingham Planning Commission under the State Planning and Research Program to undertake a major update to the U.S. Route 1 Feasibility Study, originally completed in 1989 by the Kimball Chase Company.  The project has updated the major components of the original study including land use and demographics, existing and projected traffic conditions, and recommended conceptual designs for the corridor.  In addition, several other components, such as access management and streetscaping/landscaping, which were not included in the original study, have been addressed.

The plan was initiated by the communities along the US 1 Corridor acting through the Coastal Corridor Communities Transportation Committee, an Ad Hoc sub-committee of the RPC.  The intent is to produce a document that can serve as a tool for the communities to utilize in managing the land development process, that NH DOT can refer to in planning for future improvements to the corridor, and that the Rockingham Planning Commission can use for regional transportation planning.  The plan is not intended to be “set in concrete” and be a living, flexible document that provides guidance but does not mandate particular improvements or changes.

A draft study document has been completed and is listed below in multiple forms to facilitate viewing and downloading.  The document is formatted for 11x17 “tabloid” sized paper.

For additional information contact: David Walker, RPC Senior Transportation Planner, at 603-778-0885 or dwalker@rpc-nh.org.
