Map and Data Resources

There are numerous valuable resources within the GIS community. Here are just a few the RPC relies on.

GIS Software

Common software used in the GIS community are the following:

  • ESRI Products, the ArcGIS Platform is the main tool the RPC uses for GIS, it is the industry standard for GIS software.
  • QGIS is a GIS software that is gaining market share and is used by the RPC. QGIS is a free and open software
  • TransCAD - The first and only Geographic Information System (GIS) designed specifically for use by transportation professionals
  • CommunityViz - GIS software designed to help with visualization of data.

There are many other software packages available.

Data Repositories

  • GRANIT -As New Hampshire's Statewide Geographic Information System (GIS) Clearinghouse, NH GRANIT offers an array of geospatial services.
  • National Historical GIS - The National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) provides, free of charge, aggregate census data and GIS-compatible boundary files for the United States between 1790 and 2014.
  • US Census TIGER page - TIGER products are spatial extracts from the Census Bureau's MAF/TIGER database

Mapping Portals

  • NH DES GIS Viewer - The purpose of this application is to provide access, via the web, to GIS data that are developed by the NH Department of Environmental Services

Many of the communities in the RPC region use the following vendors for Parcels, assessing, and other GIS services.

  • PeopleGIS - PeopleGIS is a service to provide online maps for communities in the RPC region.
  • NEARC User Group - The Northeast Arc User Group (NEARC) is an independent, volunteer organization dedicated to helping users of Esri GIS software be more successful.
